Rex Troute’s Plan for Building a Stronger Iowa

Raise wages over five years

  1. Increase minimum wage to $8.25 on July 1, 2021
  2. Raise to $9.25 on July 1, 2023
  3. Raise to $10.25 on July 1, 2026

We have to stay competitive with our neighboring states. We can’t lose Iowans to Omaha, Moline/East Moines and other towns across our four borders because they pay more than the Hawkeye State. I call this boost-up economics.

Iowa Incubator Initiative

A program geared to youth with an entrepreneurial spirit. The goal is to attract out-of-state graduates and keep Iowa’s youth home with a coordinated effort of state-based forgivable loans and low-interest loans from the private sector. The process also will include help when it comes to utilities and rent for proposed businesses.

Free rent kick-starter

State program would pay up to $1,000 per month for six months for any new Iowa college or university graduate, who chooses to start their career in the state. Thus, they can begin paying off student debt, but also have money to live while starting a new life.

Say goodbye to MCOs

The managed care organizations have been a failure and cost the state taxpayers more than a half billion dollars in the past year. We should return to the old model where Medicaid dollars go straight from the state to the clients and non-profits helping the mentally and physically challenged. By not providing profit for the MCOs, we can pay for the Iowa Incubator Initiative and the Free Rent Kick-Starter programs.

Always a Farm Boy

I want to serve on the Senate Agriculture Committee to address issues faced by Iowa’s farmers and ag-business industries.

Continue Iowa’s green energy movement

Retool the public university model in order to reduce student debt
